Every issue of Sierra Rec Magazine seems to take on a personality of its own, and somewhere along the way, this one became about discovery.
This fall we traveled from the high country of Yosemite to the backroads of Plumas County, from Siskiyou County and the shadow of Mount Shasta to trails above Mammoth Lakes. Some of these were trips we had planned for months. Others changed once we got there—a wrong turn, a road we decided to follow, a lake we hadn’t expected to find, or a conversation with someone who gave us a reason to stay a little longer.
That’s really what Sierra Rec has always been about. Not simply telling you where to go, but helping you imagine what might happen once you get there.
At more than 100 pages, our Fall 2026 issue is one of the largest magazines we’ve produced. It’s filled with firsthand adventures, guest stories, places to stay, gear we’ve actually used, and plenty of ideas for your next trip into the Sierra and the landscapes surrounding it.
I hope you’ll spend some time wandering through it. And maybe somewhere in these pages you’ll discover the place that becomes your next adventure.
